ST.THOMAS SHRINE

St. Thomas is believed to have landed in Kodungalloor (formerly called Muziris) in 52 AD. The St. Thomas Church established by the apostle houses holy relics from the olden days. St. Thomas is portrayed in the gospels as a courageous and challenging personality. He had preached the gospel from Ethiopia to China. Many a church in West Asia considers him as the father of its faith. At Kodungalloor, he established the first Christian church in India and is the architect behind other Churches in Kerala: Kodungallur, Kottakkavu, Palayur, Kollam, Kokkamangalam, Niranam and Nilackal.

CHERAMAN JUMA MASJID

The significance of Cheraman Juma Majsid in the Muziris Heritage Project lies in the fact that it is the first mosque in India. It stands in the district of Thrissur in Kerala, on the Parur-Kodungalloor road.It was built in 629 AD by Malik Ibn Dinar. Kunjikuttan Thampuran who is known as Kerala Vyasa has expressed the view that this was an ancient Buddhavihar that was gifted to the Muslims for the construction of a mosque.The oral tradition is that Cheraman Perumal, the Chera king, went to Arabia where he met the Prophet and embraced Islam.

KODUNGALLUR TEMPLE

Kodungallur Bhagavathy Temple is situated at Kodungallur in Thrissur District. Presiding deity badrakali is situated with Saptamaatrukkal, Vasoorimala and Kshethrapalakan. One of the supreme temple which is installed by Parasurama. It is believed that this temple built in the period of Cheran Chenguttavan. The temple has been associated with animal sacrifices.This is the most ancient temple in the northern part of Kerala.

MUZIRIS TOUR

MUZIRIS is one of the ancient harbor in India- Nearly 3000 years old. The first Jewish, Christian and Islamic settlements in India were here during 961 BC, 52 AD, and 629 AD respectively. Muziris is also known as Jerusalem of the East. Present Kodungallur Had Been Named Mahodayapuram, Makothevarpattanam Muyirikkodu and Muziris By The Greek & Romans, Shingly By The Jews, Cranganore By The Portuguese, Kodungallur now situated 30 KM north of Cochin, Muziris is said to have been first occupied around 1,000 BC and continued to be active till the 13th century AD Kodungallur is literally the cradle of several religions. Apart from the first Jews of India, this is the port where the apostle St Thomas landed, bringing Christianity to India. It is also the site of Cheraman Mosque, the first Muslim house of worship in India. In addition, it houses a famous Hindu temple, dedicated to the goddess Bhagavathy In 1341, the profile of the water bodies in the Periyar River basin, on the Malabar Coast in Kerala underwent a major transformation. The prosperous port of Muziris, at the mouth of the Periyar, overlooking the Arabian Sea was engulfed and silted over by the flooding of the river, leaving its actual site to conjecture. The excavations by the Kerala Council for Historical Research (KCHR) in 2007 & 2008 unearthed the archaeological and historical evidence which confirmed its location.

CHERAI BEACH

Almost midway on the Kerala coast, just North of Kochi, Cherai Beach is a picturesque place with the Arabian Sea on one side and backwaters on the other. Long stretches of golden sands and relatively calm waters make for the ideal beach destination. However, even though it might seem like a predominance of sun, surf and sand, there are plenty of other things to do and sights to see that make this a lovely destination for the entire family.

AZHIKODE BEACH

Azhikode was one of the major ports that linked Kerala to international trade and commerce. First church in India in the name of St.Thomas, who came here for the propagation of Christianity, is situated here. It is here where St. Thomas the apostle of Christ landed. The Cristian community of India had its inception here. St. Thomas is traditionally believed to have sailed to India in 52AD to spread the Christian faith among the Jews, the Jewish diaspora present in Kerala at the time.

THUMBOOR MUZHI

The Thumboormuzhi check dam across the Chalakudy River divert water for irrigation purpose. Here a portion of the water from the river splits in to two canals namely Edathukara canal (left side canal) and Valathukara canal (right side canal). These canals are the backbone of the irrigation for the nearby villages. During summers almost whole of the river water will be directed towards the canals and the river bed will be visible.

FORT KOCHI

Fort Kochi is west side of the city of Kochi in the state of Kerala, India. Known as Old Kochi or West Kochi was once a fishing village later saw invasion from Portuguese, Dutch, and later British. It has a mix of all these cultures and you can see it in all the buildings, streets and culture in the city. Adjacent to this is Mattancherry.You can find Jews, Muslims, Christians, Hindus, Gujarathis, Parsis and people from different parts of the world live here. It is intersting to see a wide variety of culture mingle together here and it really shaped the place into a world famous tourist spot.
